Getting to the Westin Punta Cana and transportation in the Punta Cana resort area
We arrived in Punta Cana off our flight Air Canada Premium Rouge flight at 8pm, ready to relax after our day of travel.
Pro tip - If you’re not staying in an all-inclusive, buy duty-free alcohol before proceeding through customs.
After proceeding through customs, there aren’t many options for getting to your hotel if the transfer is not included with your hotel. While it’s great that the hotel is only 3.5km away from the airport, the standard 20USD cost to get to the hotel is outright robbery ( we still took it...).
That being said, the Four Points By Sheraton Puntacana Village is a short walk from the Punta Cana airport. In fact, from Terminal A, the terminal that Air Canada flies from is just over 1km (12mins) from the airport and even closer from Terminal B.
Four Points by Sheraton Puntacana Village
This hotel has is owned by the same group as the Westin, which makes it not a bad option at all for those people looking for some Sun. Located in the village, the Four Points by Sheraton Punta Cana Village is conveniently located near shops, the grocery store and the pharmacy to name a few amenities near by.
While we didn’t stay there, we did have a beer for 4USD. Night’s at the Four Points Punta Cana are typically priced at only $115 USD (although taxes add another $30USD to the booking). Almost all nights at this time of the year price as normal or off-peak, thus 17,500 or 20,000 Marriot Bonvoy points per night, at that price, cash and Bonvoy redemptions are pretty much a wash.
I do have a booking for later in the year when I head to Punta Cana for a wedding, so stay tuned for a review!
The Four Points Punta Cana Advantage
As the Four Points by Sheraton has the same owners as the Westin Punta Cana, there is a shuttle service that goes between the two hotels, Playa Blanca Restaurant, La Cana Golf and Beach Club, La Yola Restaurant and the Ecological Reserve. The first bus departs the Westin at 10am, and the last bus arrives just before Midnight. The bus comes approximately every 75 minutes during the day, increasing to about every 50 minutes during the evening.
The shuttle is free for guests of the Four Points Punta Cana Village and Westin Punta Cana, which can save you 40$ getting too and from the airport if you’re looking to reduce costs on an award trip. Furthermore, if you’re staying at the Four Points Punta Cana Village, you’re able to use the shuttle to access the Westin Punta Cana beach, which makes this hotel a good deal for a getaway in the sun!
We frequently used the shuttle to take us to town for dinner, as we felt that the prices were better in the village and there was more variety on offer.
The Bottom Line
Taking a taxi to the Westin Punta Cana is a rip-off, but by using the transportation provided, you can avoid paying for the cab to/from the airport.
